As public servants Police Officers,
Firefighters and EMS providers are always helping
people in emergency and crisis situations. This
unique group of public servants also greatly helps
people in need beyond the call. Fireforce, which is
a group of fulltime professional firefighters, has
now used its harmonic talent to produce a Christmas
CD entitled “Home for Christmas” to help
children and teenagers who suffer from the mental
and physical scares of being burned by fire. Sales
of this CD will enable children and teens the
opportunity to attend burn camp with others who have
suffered the same trauma.
Burn camp is an opportunity for
children and teens to interact with others who have
sustained burn injuries. Campers see that they’re
not alone and they are appreciated for their inner
self and not for how their physical appearance may
look. Set within a rural environment, camp
activities are designed to enhance self-esteem, to
promote a sense of community, to provide an
opportunity for peer support and to just have fun!
Burn camp provides a special network
of support for this special population that gives
each camper a sense of belonging, and the
opportunity to share their own personal challenges
and experiences in a life as a burn survivor.
